This report has been prepared by the Access Data Development Group (ADDG), an inter-agency group including representatives from national bodies which collect key data about Access to HE in England and Wales. The agencies which contributed to the 2007 joint agency statistical report for Access to HE are:
This collaborative venture has enabled the ADDG to provide, through this annual report, the most comprehensive set of published statistical data about Access to HE, including data about course providers and provision; about students' achievement, and their progression into and through higher education.
The organisations represented on the ADDG are committed to the Management Information Across Partnership (MIAP) principles, and data is shared in accordance with the MIAP recommendations, minimising duplication of data requests to those responsible for gathering and supplying the data wherever possible. The continuous improvement in the range and completeness of data included in this report has been achieved with the cooperation of a wide range of institutions, organisations and individuals: the ADDG is grateful to all those who have contributed to this work.
The composite report is divided into a number of sections, with each agency's data provided separately. While the ADDG aims to achieve comparability of data wherever possible, there are differences in the detail and definition of cohorts and data categories between the sections, reflecting the particular needs and purposes of different agencies' data collection exercises. In making any comparisons between the sections, readers should note individual agencies' comments about the source and coverage of their own data.
Statistical data is often requested in order to provide answers to specific questions. However, the information that is then generated frequently raises other questions and provokes more detailed enquiry. The ADDG hopes that the data presented here can make a useful contribution to dialogues about Access to HE provision, both through the answers that it provides and the questions that it raises.
Due to the large number of complex data tables, they are presented in PDF format.
